Course Description
Designing becomes more effective with practice. Deepen your applied understanding of design frameworks, tools and principles from Cultural Emergence & Permaculture with a focus on the Design Web. Already involved with Permaculture or Cultural Emergence and want to experience an Advanced Design Course? This transformative learning adventure is for you. Designed to boost anyone’s design practice, the course is also a golden key for anyone practicing post-PDC permaculture, doing a Diploma or teaching any subject.

What you will learn
Share in a fun, exciting and personal experience with like minded people. Adventuring between different nature classrooms at Applewood Permaculture Centre we will share in lively learning including interactive design activities. Hang out with Delvin & Looby at meal times and around the fire in the evenings.

We will finish at 5pm on Sunday 21st Sept. There is an option to stay on Sunday night and leave on Monday morning, if that supports your travel needs.

Making Payments
There are 3 payment scales
- Concession: means-tested benefits, students limited to 4 places per course
- Low waged: under £15K per year
- Waged: over £15K per year
We offer this sliding scale on an honesty basis to try and make courses more available for low-income groups. We trust that you will pay what is right for you. Payment by installments are also accepted - please let us know your needs. Secure your place with a £50 deposit.
Food & Accomodation
Accomodation is ether camping or we have some indoor dormitory accomodation. We also have spare tents for people to borrow.
There will be a bring and share meals on Thursday evening and Friday lunch. The rest of the meals will be provided.They will be tasty vegetarian meals with vegan and gluten free options.
Who this course is for
In order to get the most out of this course for yourself and together as a learning community, we encourage people to apply who have either completed the CEED course (Cultural Emergence Effective Design) or Design Adventure Course and/or completed a design for themselves using the Design Web. This course is best suited to anyone already involved with Permaculture or Cultural Emergence in any way.
People who have just done their PDC or any Cultural Emergence course and want to go deeper.
Readers of Looby’s books People & Permaculture, Cultural Emergence, The Mother Nature Book and Cards. Those who use Delvin’s Permaculture Design Deck, Game or Notes book.
Anyone who has taken a course at Applewood Permaculture Centre or with Looby.

Facilitators & Venue
Looby Macnamara is co-developer of the Cultural Emergence toolkit with Jon Young. She is an experienced permaculture teacher, author and designer. She is author of 4 books, Cultural Emergence, People and Permaculture and 7 Ways to Think Differently.
People and Permaculture is the first book to directly translate the principles and design methods of permaculture from land to people. Looby enjoys using creative teaching methods to create a fun and collaborative learning environment.
Delvin Solkinson
Delvin Solkinson is a community gardener, student and teacher from British Columbia, Canada. He has done a PDC, Diploma and Masters Degree with Bill Mollison, a Doctorate with Larry Santoyo, 2 other Diplomas, 13 teacher trainings & 13 advanced courses. He is Diploma Program Co-ordinator at Permaculture Institute, Diploma Tutor with Permaculture Association and Diploma Instructor at Pacific Rim College. Currently pursuing a Post-Doc in Permaculture Education and part of the Art Ministry at CoSM, Chapel and Sacred Mirrors. Delvin collaborates with his wife Grace and many others to create free learning and teaching tools, write articles and make videos.

The land and all of the beings here provide an ideal environment for connecting deeply with the more than human world. We will be blessed with spending summer days in the marquee in the orchard, and evenings around the campfire with stories, song and music accompanied by owl hoots. Nature is said to be the best teacher, and at Applewood we will be immersed in the more than human world, allowing for the learning to become a truly embodied experience.
